devils never cry
The name "Devil May Cry" hails from two places. In Devil May Cry 3, Dante has just moved in to his shop, and states that he's still trying to think of a name for his place after someone calls. He comments how he doesn't even have a name for his place and people are already calling. Later, in Mary's last narrative, she tells how Dante finally finds a name for his shop. It comes from Dante's ability to shed tears after his brother falls into Hell, and Mary's line: "Even a devil may cry if he loses a loved one." With this, Dante calls his business "Devil May Cry."
In Enzo's little exert in the personality section, he mentions that "This guy eyes you, you can bet even devils may cry," insinuating that Dante is so frightening that even devils cry before him. Of course this takes up entirely new meaning when Trish begins to cry.
The name changes in the original Devil May Cry, after Dante saves Trish and tells her that "devils never cry". When he takes her back with him, the name of his business changes to "Devil Never Cry".
Originally, Capcom meant to call the game "Devil May Care" instead of "Devil May Cry". Personally, I think "Devil May Cry" sounds infinitely more badass.
